LOUIE EDWARD JOHNSON Louie Edward Johnson 84 of Atlantic passed away Wednesday February 11, 2009 at his home. He was born April 7, 1924 near Casey, Iowa. He was the youngest of ten children born to Louie Sr. and his wife Christina (Johnson) Johnson. His father died when Louie was three years old. After attending Anita High School, he worked for Farmer's Co-op in Anita, Omaha Packing Plant and farmed with his brother. April 3, 1948 he was united in marriage to Lillie Juhler. They farmed in the Anita area for 21 years until purchasing a farm near Exira. After back problems caused him to discontinue farming, they moved to Atlantic and he worked in the office of Farmer's Grain and Livestock Advisory Service in Des Moines for 15 years. The couple did extensive traveling in the 50 states; Europe, two cruises, and a trip to Israel. Louie enjoyed building furniture, playing cards and fishing until his bouts with cancer and strokes took his energy. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Friends of the Danish Museum and a 30 plus member of the Lion's Club where he was named Lion of the Year and received the Coleman Award. Proceeding him in death were his parents; a brother Walter Johnson; sisters, Amy Johnson, Ruby Warner, Viola Teaff, Veta Gress, Lucille Glynn and Bertha Mae McAfee who passed away on February 9; and ten brothers-in-law, three nieces and one nephew. Surviving are his wife Lillie of 60 years; two sons, Stanley (Jill) Johnson of Colorado and Steven (Shannon) Johnson of Texas; and six grandchildren include: Kyle (Tram) and children Jennifer and Julia of Texas, Andrea and Ben Johnson of Colorado, Linsey Johnson, Rachel and husband Ian Kerns all of North Liberty, Iowa and Preston Johnson is of Council Bluffs. Louie also had the joy of three great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Leah Mae and Aaden Kerns of North Liberty. Other survivors are sisters-in-law, Marie Johnson, Marie Ross, Violet Kardell and Viola Juhler along with many nieces and nephews.Funeral InformationFuneral services will be held Monday, February 16 at Saint Paul's Lutheran Church at 10:30 A.M. There will be open visitation from 8 A.M. to 8 P.M. daily and family will meet with friends Sunday evening February 15 from 6:00 to 8:00 at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Following the funeral, burial will take place in the Atlantic Cemetery. Roland Funeral Home of Atlantic is caring for Louie's family and arrangements.
