Obituary for Zoe Lavonne Johnson

Zoe Lavonne Johnson
ZOE LAVONNE JOHNSON Zoe Johnson, 63, was called to her eternal home from her residence in Cumberland, Iowa on Wednesday, April 29, 2009. Zoe Lavonne was born the daughter of Garland L. and Florence (Wahlert) Nelson in Atlantic, Iowa on April 8, 1946. She was raised where the family farmed two miles south of Brayton, Iowa. She graduated with the Exira High School Class of 1964. Zoe was married to Larry "Truck" Johnson on February 15, 1965 in Red Oak, Iowa. The couple raised a family of four sons while they farmed in the Cumberland area until Larry's retirement. Following his passing, for the past number of years she managed the Senior Haven Meal Site in Cumberland. She also wrote a popular, weekly editorial for the Anita Tribune. Southwest Eight Congregate Meal Sites recently recognized her for gracious, volunteer work. Zoe had a great love for her grandchildren and was like a grandmother to many of the neighborhood kids. She will be remembered for her love of the Lord, her joyful outlook, the bright colors that she enjoyed wearing and the flowered car she drove. Her family comments with smiles, "When we would enter a large group of people, we could always spot Mom right away." Zoe's survivors include her four sons: Ted Johnson and wife Angie of Cumberland, Tony Johnson and wife Heather of Ankeny, Andrew Johnson and wife Kara of West Des Moines, and Alex Johnson and wife Angie of Atlantic. Grandchildren include Cody, Cole, RaeAnn, Hannah, Josiah, Moriah, Micah, Alec, Kailey, Daniella, Téa, Eden, Korbin, and Sophie. Siblings include two sisters, Lois Claassen and husband Richard of Fort Pierce, Florida; Joyce Lutz and husband John of Des Moines; one brother Jerry Nelson of Atlantic; and a number of nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Larry, and her brother Leon Nelson.Funeral Information Her funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.
