Zeta Eileen  Eblen
Zeta Eblen, 96, long time resident of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Thursday morning, April 15, 2010 at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in Atlantic. Zeta Eileen was born the daughter of James Edward and Minnie Bell (Bartels) Fay on April 1, 1914 at her parents' home west of Griswold, Iowa. She grew up going to school in Wiota, and attending high school in Lewis, Grant, and Atlantic. Zeta was married to Wilbur Henry Eblen in Council Bluffs, Iowa on November 29, 1939. The couple was blessed with a son. She was employed at the Corn Canning and Egg Plant, as a waitress in numerous restaurants, including The Spot and the Whitney Hotel, and as a clerk in Spurgeon"s Department Store in Atlantic. Zeta baked pies and donuts for the Greyhound Bus Depot and the Spot. She also baked more than 100 pies in one week for the 4-H food stand at the Cass County Fair. Zeta could sew up a dress, latch hook a rug, embroider a set of dish towels and bake an outstanding coconut cream pie. She loved to work where she could visit with people. She liked to play bingo and was usually a winner. She was a fan of stuffed bears and live kittens. Zeta was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and held numerous offices. Wilbur passed away on April 16, 1977. She is survived by her son Fay Eblen and his wife LaVon of Atlantic; nephews and nieces; great nephews and nieces; and her brother Mearl Fay and his wife Isabelle of Lenox, IA. Zeta was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband Wilbur; brothers, Eldon, Lester and Erving Fay; and a sister Marcella who died as an infant. Pastor Gary DeGeest will officiate.
