Obituary for Katherine "Kay" Ellen Pellett (Maher)

Katherine "Kay" Ellen Pellett, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, January 27, 2018, peacefully surrounded by family.

The daughter of Dan and Marie (Watts) Maher, Kay was born June 14, 1926, in Colfax, Iowa. She grew up on the family farm near Mingo, Iowa, and graduated from Mingo High School. Following graduation, she attended Marquette University, and later Drake University, receiving her B.S. Degree in Education.

Kay was united in marriage to Ted M. Pellett on January 19, 1952, in Colfax, Iowa. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church where she taught catechism for the youth program. Kay also served as a leader for the Eldeen of Pymosa 4H Club, was a member of the 5 Mile Grove Community Club, Treasurer for the YWCA, and a volunteer for the Hospital Auxiliary. Kay found joy in many things; she loved baking pies, planting flowers in the spring, bird watching, and playing bridge with her friends. Many memories were made on trips with her sisters Alisha and Ginny. She loved her summers at the lake and her winters walking the white sandy beaches in Florida. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her family; especially winning in dominoes against her grandkids. Kay was blessed by many friendships she made during her time spent at Heritage House.

Kay is survived by her six children, Pamela (Larry) Flaa, Kathy (Jeff) Swinnerton, Mark (Debra) Pellett, Lisa Thibodeau, Suzanne Chandler, and Traci (Dean) Pavletich. In addition, she is survived by 14 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, sister Alisha (Jerry) Jennings, brother-in-law, Ken Bohney and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Dan and Marie Maher, husband, Ted Pellett, sister, Virginia “Ginny” Bohney, brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Patricia) Maher and Don (Althea) Maher, and son-in-law, John Chandler.
