Obituary for Jeffrey "Animal" J. Weihs
Jeff "Animal" J. Weihs, 57, of Marne, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at his home.
Jeffrey Joseph Weihs was born on January 24, 1960, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Harold "Sonny" J.J. and Letha L. (Ward) Weihs. He grew up in the Atlantic and Marne area and graduated from Atlantic High School in 1979. After graduation he went to work for Land O'Lakes in Oakland, and after it closed he worked various jobs including bartending at the Marne Bar. For the last 23 years he has worked at Mahle, formerly known as Glacier, as a machine operator.
Jeff was an avid hunter and fisherman, and looked forward to his trips to North Dakota to throw a line in the Red River hoping to reel in the biggest catfish. He was active in the men's bowling league at Super Bowl for many years, and was always up for a game of cards; especially if the game was euchre. Jeff enjoyed watching NASCAR, cheering on the Earnhardts. Every spring he began preparations for his large garden in which he grew just about everything. His family will miss his unique laugh and ornery spirit; always wanting to get a leg up on you!
Jeff will be deeply missed by his brothers and sister, Doug Weihs of Manson, Dennis Weihs of Marne, John (Vickie) Weihs of Walnut, Suzy (special friend, Sara Ferrell) Weihs of Overland Park, Kansas, and Joe Weihs of Marne; sister-in-law, Amy Weihs of Walnut; beloved dog, Riley; and many nieces, nephews and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dan Weihs; and niece, Whitney L. Weihs.
A time for viewing will be held Friday, July 14th from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and on Saturday, July 15th from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. No visitation with the family will be held.
A Celebration of Jeff's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 17th at Brighton Township Cemetery, northeast of Marne. Following the service at the cemetery the family invites you to join them for lunch at the Marne United Methodist Church.
