Obituary for Terry H. Christensen

Terry H. Christensen, 70, of Council Bluffs and formerly of Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016, at his home.

Terry Hans Christensen was born on January 2, 1946, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Benjamin Hans and Marie Rosella (Paulson) Christensen. He grew up on the family farm south of Brayton and attended Smoky Hill #8 country school and later Exira High School.

Terry was united in marriage to Etta Lee Toler on June 6, 1981, at the United Church of Christ in Atlantic. He was Etta Lee's rock through their 35 years of marriage. While living in Atlantic he worked for Armstrong Plumbing and Heating for many years. In 1992, the couple moved to Council Bluffs to be closer to Etta Lee's job. Terry didn't like the move at first, but as time passed it became home. After the move he was a stay at home dad to their daughter, Terri.

He will be remembered by his family as a hardworking man, who always put family first. Terry and Etta Lee were never to miss one of Terri's band activities, which took them all the way to Texas, or her playing bells at church. When their first grandson was born they watched him during the day, and it didn't take long for Enzo and Papa to form a special bond. In recent years they would hit garage sales together about every weekend, and usually came home with a new toy. Terry was an avid baseball card collector, having over 100,000 cards in his collection. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his younger days. After Etta Lee's retirement they enjoyed antiquing and visits to the casino. It wasn't just about playing the penny slots, Terry loved visiting with people.

Terry is survived by his wife, Etta Lee; daughter, Terri (Tim) Calabro of Bennington, NE, and their son, Enzo, sister, Joyce Christensen of Brayton, IA; brother, Andrew (Sue) Christensen of Anita; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister and brother-in-law, Audrey (Eric John) Jorgensen, brother, Benny Lee Christensen; brother-in-law, Darrall Christensen.

Visitation with the family will be held prior to the service starting at 9:30 a.m., Friday, December 23rd at Roland Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday with Reverend Nancy Jensen of the United Church of Christ officiating.

Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
