Obituary for Gyle N Conrad

Gyle N. Conrad, 92, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, October 22, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care.

The son of Vincent and Alice (Wagner) Conrad, Gyle was born July 2, 1924, in Lewis, Iowa. He was baptized at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. After attending rural school near Lewis, he then graduated from the Lewis High School with the Class of 1942. On June 9, 1942, he was united in marriage to Edna Hemphill in Maryville, Missouri. Gyle then started farming in the Cass County area where he grew row crops, raised stock and dairy cattle, and also hogs. In their free time, Gyle and Edna loved visiting family in Missouri and vacationing in Branson, Missouri. They also enjoyed playing cards with their neighborhood card club. Most of all they cherished spending time with their family and grandchildren. Edna passed away April 6, 1984. Gyle retired from farming in November of 1984, and was then employed at various jobs in the area.

On July 28, 1986, he was united in marriage to Marilyn McCormick at the Central Church of Christ in Griswold. They made their home in Cumberland, Iowa until they retired in 2005 and relocated to Atlantic. Together they traveled to many country shows throughout the years and spent time going to coffee with friends and camping. They enjoyed their Atlantic home until Gyle moved to Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center in June of 2009. Marilyn passed away in September of 2014.

Gyle is survived by his children: Linda (Stephen) Herington of Waverly, IA, LuAnn (Mick) Reynolds of Grant, IA, Chris (Lynda) Conrad of Atlantic, IA, and Lori Price of Hampton, IA; his grandchildren: Jason Palmquist of Chicago, IL, Melanie (Brian) Gravdal of Ladera Ranch, CA, Erika (Charles) Gonzalez of NC, Brandi (Cory) Feltner of Griswold, IA, Meagan (Bill) Froehlich of Waukee, IA, Heather (Jeremy) Sipes of Council Bluffs, IA, Brooke (Craig) Gregory of Council Bluffs, Kourtney Conrad of Council Bluffs, Chelsey Conrad and fiancé Austin Oehlerking of Bondurant, IA, Austin Conrad of Maryville, MO, Selena Valdivia of Concord, NC, Christian Andersen of Hampton, Cassandra (Angel) Martinez of Hampton, Peggy Griffith of Nebraska City, NE; 12 great grandchildren; brother-in-law Edgar Hemphill of Atlantic; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife: Edna (Hemphill) Conrad; his second wife: Marilyn (Martens) Conrad; his parents; his sister Mary (Maurice) Rabe; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Monte Hemphill, Leo Hemphill, Melvin Hemphill, Beulah Slocum, and Meta Hemphill.

Open visitation will be available Thursday, October 27th, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be held Friday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, October 28, 2016, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will be in the Griswold Cemetery.
