Obituary for Clifford W. Kauffman

Clifford W. Kauffman of York, Nebraska, and formerly of Marne, Iowa, passed away at the Hearthstone Care Center in York on Saturday, September 19, at the age of 96 years, 3 months, and 22 days.

Clifford was born in Shelby County, Iowa, to Homer and Edna (McFadden) Kauffman on May 28, 1919. Clifford graduated from Kirkman High School on May 15, 1936. While in high school, Clifford was Editor in Chief of the Kirkman year book, "The Bomb," and drew the cartoons for the school newspaper. During his junior year he played the role of Jimmy Carlyle, an attorney in the play "The Attorney for the Defense." He was senior class vice president. Clifford played reserve guard on the basketball team where he lettered on the second team. He was first cornet in his high school orchestra. He performed the role of Ruford Sawyer a timid lawyer in the school play "Two Days to Marry." Clifford received a Certificate of Completion for 24 Hour Basic Electronics from Iowa Western Community College on December 2, 1980.

On December 22, 1954, Clifford married Delores Mae Reuwsatt. After their marriage they farmed near Avoca, Iowa, and then moved to a farm north of Marne, Iowa. Clifford and Delores purchased a corn shelling business in September of 1962 and operated this business until December of 1993. They continued to live in Marne until October of 2008 when they moved to the Hearthstone Care Center in York, Nebraska to be closer to family. Clifford and Delores adopted Theresa and Billy in May of 1962.

Clifford was an active member of the Marne Fire Department; served on the Marne City Council for many years and was a den leader for the Marne Cub Scouts. Clifford and Delores joined the Redline Church of Christ on January 29, 1961, when they were baptized by Harley Amick. He was installed as an elder of the Church of Christ on February 3, 1969. Clifford has seen 17 presidents in his lifetime.

Clifford is survived by his daughter, Theresa Tolle of Omaha, NE; his son, Bill Kauffman and wife, Toby of York, NE; grandchildren, Nichole (Kevin) Lawrence of York, NE, Jennifer (Keith) Hill of Council Bluffs, IA, Amanda (David) Kauffman-Templeton of Bremerton, WA, Nathan Tolle of Omaha, NE, Heather (Brandon) Williams of Council Bluffs, IA and Ashley (Daniel J.) Wagner of York, NE; great grandchildren, Terrance Bladt, Abigail Bladt, Jonathan Heisser, Melissa Tolle, Dalton Ekeler, Levi Ekeler, Madeline Templeton, Alexandria Templeton and Knickolas Templeton; sister, Wanda Bonney of Keller, Texas; sister-in-law, Laverne Clark of Harlan, Iowa; nieces and nephews, and his extended family, the staff at Hearthstone Care Center.

Clifford is preceded in death by his parents, Homer and Edna Kauffman; his wife of 55 years, Delores; his brothers, Glen and wife Lavone Kauffman, Dale and wife Faye Kauffman; and sister, Gladys and husband Raymond Powell.

Visitation with the family with the family is from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the Redline Church of Christ, five miles north of Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, September 25, 2015, at the Redline Church of Christ in Redline, Iowa, with Roy North officiating. Burial will be in the Redline Cemetery.
