Obituary for Shirley A Armstrong
Shirley A. Armstrong, 78, of Cumberland, Iowa, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015, at her home in Cumberland.
Shirley Ann was born March 27, 1937, in Omaha, Nebraska. At the age of 10 she was adopted by William and Irene (Frazer) Beier, and grew up on their farm northeast of Atlantic. She attended school in Wiota and graduated in 1956. She married Frank Armstrong, and to this union two children were born, Sandra and Eugene. The couple operated Armstrong Taxi Service in Atlantic for 4 years. A short time later, she moved to Cumberland. Shirley attended Standard Beauty School in Omaha and ran a salon out of her home for over 30 years. In addition to her salon, she also worked a few years at the Cass County Communications Center.
Shirley loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She looked forward to the holidays, with many of the meals being prepared by her and Sandra. Countless memories were made on many annual trips to Arkansas to visit family. She avidly enjoyed fishing, playing cards and her vegetable gardens. Tomatoes were her specialty!
Shirley is survived by her children, Sandra (Elan Peron) Armstrong and Eugene Armstrong, all of Cumberland; grandchildren, Travis Armstrong of Cumberland and RoxAnn Peron of Spirit Lake; great-grandchildren, Raven, Dameon and Sonya; step-brother, John Beier of Omaha; and many other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; and brother, Herb Beier.
Per Shirley's wishes cremation has taken place and no services are planned.
