Obituary for Lois F Andersen

Lois Faye Grulke Andersen, 82, passed away Monday, November 10, 2014, at Atlantic Nursing and Rehab Center.

The daughter of William, Jr. and Iva Quick Grulke, she was born February 12, 1932, in Atlantic, Iowa. Lois was the oldest of four children, and grew up on the family farm north of Atlantic. In 1950, she graduated from Atlantic High School.

On June 17, 1951, she was united in marriage to Donald Dean Andersen in Atlantic. Lois kept the books for several local businesses and insurance companies throughout her career, and most recently at Robinson's Hardware in Atlantic, retiring in 2009. She was a hard worker no matter what the task; trustworthy and honest with a great sense of humor. Lois' family remembers her as ever loving and caring - always putting others first and ready with down to earth, sensible advice.

Lois was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. Volunteering at the Elks Club and planning weddings were special interests of hers. She and Don could often be found on the dance floor. Each year brought joyful anticipation of the Andersen Family Reunion as well as holidays with family. She loved getting together with friends to play cards and for a cup of coffee.

Lois is survived by her devoted husband, Don of Atlantic; sons, Dean (Tammy) Andersen of Gretna, NE, Darin (Lori) Andersen of Council Bluffs and Damon (Paula) Andersen of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Garrett Andersen, Grace Andersen and Asher Andersen; step-grandson, Terence (Katie) Herrick; step-great-grandchildren, Reagan and Liam; sister, Lucy (John) Dostal; and brother, Lynn (Susie) Grulke.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Lawrence Grulke; and granddaughter, Kersten Joy Andersen.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014, at the First United Presbyterian with Pastor Holly Smith officiating.

Interment will be held prior to the service in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2014, at Roland Funeral Home, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
