EUGENE “GENE” L. CAMBRIDGE

Gene Cambridge, 74, life long resident of the Atlantic area, passed away at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa on Thursday, December 20, 2012.
Eugene was born the son of Clarence L. and Edna (Ross) Cambridge on December 4, 1938 in Atlantic, Iowa. He grew up in Cumberland where he attended school, graduating with the Cumberland High School Class of 1957. He served his country in the United States Army.
Gene was married to Paulette Nelson at Brayton Lutheran Church in Brayton, Iowa on October 12, 1968. The couple made their home in Atlantic where they were blessed with two children. He was employed with the Atlantic Municipal Utilities where he was active in their service department until he retired in 2001. He served on the Atlantic Cemetery Board and Nishna Valley Credit Union Board.
He was a member of the ELKS Club; Za-Ga-Zig Shrine of Des Moines; Pymosa Lodge #271 Masonic Lodge; and of the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church of Atlantic. Gene enjoyed spending time at his farm south of Cumberland, the morning coffee group at HyVee, Iowa Hawkeye sports, and attending horse sales.
Survivors include his wife, Paulette; daughter, Staci and her husband, Eric Wendt of Philadelphia, PA; his son, Brent Cambridge of Waukee, IA; aunt, Marie Ross of Kansas City, MO; mother-in-law, Lois Nelson of Atlantic; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Russell and Kristi Nelson of Omaha; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Peggy and Ed Mikolajczyk of Omaha; and a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in passing by his parents.
His funeral will take place at 11:00am, on Thursday, December 27, in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30pm Wednesday evening at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Pastor Grant Van Lishout will officiate. The committal will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery following the funeral service

There will be Open Visitation (for viewing and leaving condolences) at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic on Saturday, Dec. 22 from 9 to noon; on Sunday, Dec. 23 from 1 to 4pm; Mon. Dec. 24 from 9 to noon; Tuesday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day—upon request; and Wednesday, Dec. 26, from noon to 4pm.
