KENNETH E. CHRISTENSEN

Kenneth E. Christensen, 79, a resident of rural Wiota, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. Kenneth was born in Atlantic to Lawrence and Marie Theresa (Harmsen) Christensen on July 3, 1932. He was raised in the Atlantic and Walnut areas and attended school there until the 8th grade. On March 9, 1952, Kenneth was united in marriage to Leila Marie Cue in Atlantic. He joined the U.S. Army and served during the Korean Conflict. In 1954 they started farming in the Lewis-Griswold area and then moved south of Wiota in 1966 to farm. He did bridge construction for several years until he started K.C. & Sons Construction. He later returned to bridge construction until retirement. He was a member of the Anita American Legion, the Masonic Lodge in Anita and the Wiota United Methodist Church. For several years, he wintered in Texas. Kenneth loved fishing, camping and, especially, his family.
He is survived by five children, Dannie Christensen and wife, Dee, of Missouri Valley, IA, Dale Christensen and his fiancé, Kari of Rosenberg, TX, Diane Denney and husband, Joe, of Anita, IA, David Christensen and wife, Mona, of Anita, IA and Deann Dee Koenig and husband, Kelly, of Jonestown, TX; grandchildren, Cherie Petty, Peggy Christensen, Keri and Josh Christensen, Stacy Hedrick, T. J. Christensen, Quinn, Nina and Jad Denney, Estel Wittrock, Emily and Dalton Christensen, Shannyn Kandl and Timothy Koenig; 13 great-grandchildren; special family friends, Robert and Pat Dennis of Atlantic, IA; sisters, Lorraine Howell of Walnut, IA and Lyla Good and husband, Tom, of Elliott, IA; brother, Jim Christensen and wife, Gladys, of Kansas; sisters-in-law, Beulah Ostrus and husband, Ron, of Wiota and Lois Ansen of Avoca; a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Leila; and a sister, Nora, in infancy.
There is an open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, Iowa, Sunday afternoon, April 1 from 1:00 to 7:30 with the family visitation from 5:30 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Services for Kenneth will be held on Monday, April 2, at 1:30 pm in the Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Gary DeGeest, from the Wiota United Methodist Church, officiating. The committal service will be in the Atlantic Cemetery with military honors performed by the Anita American Legion.
