Obituary for Sally Bliem Hohl (Stein)

Sara (Sally) Bliem Hohl, 91, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, September 28, 2021, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Sally was born to George E. and Katie Bliem Stein on November 19, 1929 in Pottstown, Pennsylvania. She was the youngest of seven children that were born into that union. She was a member of Searles Memorial Methodist Church. Sally graduated from Pottstown High School in 1947. After graduation Sally worked for several years as a bookkeeper for J. Fegely and Son Wholesale Hardware Store. On August 23, 1952 she married Richard T. Hohl. They were blessed with six children: Lonnie (Joan) Hohl of Sioux City Iowa; Dawn (Rod) Foutch of Missouri Valley, Iowa; Tom (Teena) Hohl of Aurora, Colorado; Penny (Mike) Ewert of Livonia, Michigan; Wendy (Blair) Bellis of Albrightsville, Pennsylvania; and Cindy (Murray) Anderson of Forest City, Iowa.

Sally held many different offices in the churches across Iowa while she was a United Methodist Pastor’s wife and held various jobs in the towns where they lived. She was very active in United Methodist Women and held several district and local offices. Dick and Sally retired to Atlantic, Iowa where they enjoyed being members of the First United Methodist Church. In 2010 Dick and Sally moved to Heritage House in Atlantic, where Sally was a member of Heritage House Guild and held most of the offices in that organization.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, George and Katie Stein; brothers John, Fred, Vincent and Edward; and sisters Pauline and Katherine. She was also preceded in death by her husband Richard; son Tom; and granddaughter Keri Hohl.

Sally is survived by five children; 13 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and lots of nieces, nephews and friends.

Sally loved people and will be greatly missed. A Celebration of Life service will be hosted by the family on Saturday, October 2nd at Heritage House Hall at 10:00 AM with a luncheon to follow.
