Obituary for Corrine Jeanette "Corky" Brown (Littlefield)

Corrine “Corky” Brown, 82, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away on April 2, 2021, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Corrine was born in Brayton, Iowa on February 13, 1939 to Lee William and Mae Nora (Jacobsen) Littlefield. She and her three sisters grew up in Exira and moved to Atlantic, when she was in the 4th grade. It was during her years at Atlantic High School that she received her nickname “Corky” and gained many lifelong friends. In 1955, on her birthday, Corky went on a first date with Harold "Pete" Brown. The pair had been introduced by Pete’s sister, Lavonne. They were married on October 12, 1958 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, and together raised two children: Brian and Renee. They were married for 63 joyful years. Corky worked several jobs around Atlantic, including waitressing at the local A&W Root Beer Drive-in, secretarial positions, and most of all, helping her husband build, manage and operate Brown Auto Body. Her greatest “job” in life was being a homemaker and mother. She was immensely proud of her family and loved them fiercely.

She was known for her great sense of humor, kindness to others, and for always having a contagious smile and ready laughter. While she was not shy about making her opinions known, she tried to teach the value of dedication, kindness and an “if you start something, finish it” mentality to the next generation. Corky loved raising flowers, watching the corn grow, going on Sunday drives, and the joy of garage sale shopping. She loved the thrill of the hunt and finding a good deal. She was also an avid girls’ high school basketball enthusiast, collecting each year’s tournament program. She loved many sports and especially enjoyed following the Chicago Cubs, in recent years. She kept a daily diary, where she vigilantly recorded all kinds of information, which she began at age 15.

Corky loved weekend camping trips with family and friends and would take extended vacations each year. This means that she and Pete eventually drove to 45 of the 50 contiguous states, and also enjoyed a 9-country tour of Europe. She was extremely dedicated to family, friends and numerous volunteer organizations throughout Atlantic.

These include: the local bowling league, church committees and functions, and the Purple Posies, but most notably, the Atlantic B.P.O. Does, Drove #23. One of her proudest accomplishments was her bowling abilities and her drive to establish and maintain one of the highest averages in the city for many years.

Corrine is survived by her husband, Harold “Pete” Brown of Atlantic; sister, Charlotte Repp; son, Brian (Cindee) Brown; daughter, Renee (Randy) Pauley; grandchildren, Nicholas Brown, Dustin (Daniele) Nevins, Krissy (Tyler) Jorgensen, Rachel Pauley, Sara Pauley, and Megan (Hunter) Reid; great-grandchildren, Makenzi, Beckett and Charlotte Nevins, Henry, Bowen and Wyatt Jorgensen, Maverick and Charlotte Reid; ; and many beloved nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee and Mae Littlefield; sisters, Lola Klein-Lockwood and Dorothy Brent; sisters-in-law, Lavonne Harris and Donnis Auerbach; brothers-in-law, Art Repp, Jerry Brent, Edward Klein, Stan Lockwood, Wayne Auerbach, and beloved nieces and nephews.
