Obituary for Pam Juhl-Mennes
Pam Juhl-Mennes, 76, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, July 20, 2020, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
Pamela Jane was born on December 5, 1943, in Atlantic, Iowa, the daughter of Helen Lucille (Campbell) Keller. She was raised by her maternal grandparents, Lewis and Gladys Campbell, in their loving Christian home, and attended school in Atlantic. During her childhood she helped with the family’s business and spent a lot of time with her cousins. Pam started a family early and was blessed with eight children. Most of her time was spent at home caring for her family and also working as a cook at local restaurants, including the Shamrock Café at the Valley.
Pam’s ability to whip up something delicious in the kitchen was one of a kind; she was an amazing cook and baker. She would decide what she was going to make and went to work adding, a little of this and a little of that, never using a recipe as that may ruin it. The finished product was nothing but melt in your mouth delicious; some of her specialties being her soups and cakes. She also enjoyed sewing and recently became involved with making quilts with the ladies at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
If you could only use one word when asked to describe Pam, it would be LOVE. Through the years she made a lot of sacrifices to be able to provide for her family and would give anything even if that meant she went without. She had nothing, but gave it all! Pam raised her children for the most part on her own and often said she raised another four generations, as time with her grandchildren was priceless. She treasured time spent with her family and looked forward to gathering at Christmas where she always gave a little something and also sent them home with a basket full of food; which she thoughtfully put together. It was the simple things that made Pam the happiest: FAITH, FAMILY and LOVE.
Pam is survived by her daughters, Roxanne (Steve) Woolsey, Keli Juhl, and Paula (Gary) Jameson; sons, Chuck Juhl, Richard (Jamie) Juhl, Jr., and Kenneth “Bubba” Mennes; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Cheri Schwenke and Gladys Martin; brothers, Ron (Vicki) Beebe and Richard Keller; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Helen Keller; maternal grandparents, Lewis and Gladys Campbell; husbands, Richard Juhl, Sr. and Cliff Mennes; daughters, Christine Watson and Linda Prottsman; daughters-in-law, Linda Lee Juhl and Connie Juhl; brother-in-law, Ivan Schwenke; uncle, Bill Campbell; aunt, Georgene Olney; nephew, Todd Beebe; and special friend, Dennis Linfor.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2020, at the Lewis Community Center. The wearing of a facemask is optional, and some will be available for those that wish to wear one. The family invites you to join them for a time of food and fellowship immediately following the service. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa.
