Obituary for Susan A. Pinkerton

Susan A. Pinkerton, residing outside Griswold IA, formerly of Omaha, NE passed away peacefully on Monday, May 11, 2020, at her home.

Susan Amelia (Risley) Pinkerton was born in Minneapolis, MN, on September 27, 1941, to Edna (Lund) and Max I. Risley. As a young child her family relocated to Omaha, NE. Susan attended Rosehill Elementary and graduated from Benson High School in 1959. She met the love of her life while at Benson, Alan L. Pinkerton, who she married on March 13, 1963. From this marriage she had three beautiful daughters: Tracy Ann, Dana Leigh (Paul Upshaw) and Shannon Sue (Matt Schuett). She loved her girls with her whole heart, she considered them her best friends and “partners in crime”. There wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t make sure she talked to at least one of them.

Her best friends gave her 5 wonderful grandchildren – Joshua (Brittany) & Zachary (Cara) Wiig, John Nelson (Diedra Smith), Jacob & Abigail Schuett also 5 great grandchildren: Charles & Howard Wiig, Hunter & Jesse Nelson, Hazel Grace Wiig.

Susan’s career started at UNMC in the early 1970’s in medical records. She had a passion for the medical industry. She became intrigued with psychiatry and loved to learn all about how the human mind worked. This led to her career in Psychiatry, as an executive assistant at Nebraska Psychiatry Institute for the majority of her time at UNMC. She retired after 30 years in 2003.

Alan and Sue moved to Griswold, IA in 1994 where they fell in love with the country life and embraced everything it had to offer. She loved her big four-square house and one of her favorite past times was to mow the lawn on her Dixon mower!

Her true loves in life were family, music, magazines, researching what was the best car to buy, looking at real estate, quilting, knitting, crocheting, wearing and gifting funny t-shirts, writing lists and short stories.
If you met her, you liked her! If you got lucky enough to be family, she loved you unconditionally without question.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will take place at a later time with family and friends.
Memorials may be directed to the family for designation at a later date.
