Francis Bud  Johnson
Francis "Bud&" Johnson, 68 a resident of Atlantic died Monday, April 7, 2003 at St. Joseph Hospital at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.The son of Frank and Evelyn (Hood) Johnson, Francis was born in Mason City, Iowa on February 18, 1935. They moved to Council Bluffs while he was a child, and he graduated in 1953 from Thomas Jefferson High School. He attended college at Omaha University for a short while and worked for the Corp of Engineers in Omaha.Francis, better known as "Bud&", Married Eileen Christiansen, February 11, 1956, in Holy Family Catholic Church in Council Bluffs. The couple lived in Council Bluffs until moving to Atlantic in 1961, and he was a materials inspector with the Iowa Department of Transportation for 39 years. Following four years of formation, he was ordained a Permanent Deacon of the Des Moines Diocese in August of 2001 serving at the St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He especially liked doing practical construction, woodworking and enjoyed model trains.Bud is survived by his wife, Eileen; a son, Dr. Mark Johnson and his wife, Pamela, of Atlantic and their children; Katie, Ben, Sam and Aaron; a daughter, Pamela Boone and her husband, David, of Des Moines and their family, Quincy and Myles; his mother, Evelyn Johnson, of Council Bluffs; sisters, Jacquie Kallman of Bellevue, Nebraska, Barbara Ackerson of Council Bluffs, Mary Burroughs and her husband, Richard, of Council Bluffs, Gertrude Lines and her husband, Jerry, of Conroe, Texas, and Rosemarie Meekins of Council Bluffs; a brother, James Johnson and wife, Karen, of Arlington Heights, Illinois; a brother-in-law, Kenneth Christiansen and his wife, Helen, of Council Bluffs and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Johnson, a brother-in-law, Michael Kallman, a niece, Theresa Sideropolus and a nephew, Brian Ackerson.Funeral InformationServices for Bud will be held Saturday, April 12, 2003, at 10:30 A.M. at the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Most Reverend Joseph L. Charron, C.PP.S. Msgr. Larry Beeson, Rev. Mr. Fred Cornwell and Rev. Mr. Jeffrey Boehlert officiating. Interment will be in the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery.
