Nellie Zellmer, age 103, a former Atlantic resident passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2003, at Karen Acres Care Center in Urbandale, Iowa.Nellie was the daughter of Marc C. and Johanna (Martens) Hansen. She was born south of Atlantic on September 16, 1899 and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1917. She was married to Albert Franz Zellmer on September 1, 1920. They farmed until moving to Walnut on September 1, 1969. Nellie was active in church womens' groups, Iowa State Extension work, a 4-H leader for many years and a Sunday School teacher. In 1975, she moved to Sioux City, IA to be near to her daughter and later to the Des Moines area. Nellie was a member of the United Church of Christ in Atlantic and was now a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church in West Des Moine, IA.Surviving are a son Neale Zellmer and his wife Arlene of Belmont, California; a daughter Norma Hilton and her husband Dale of West Des Moines, Iowa; six grandchildren, Janet Peterson of Raleigh, NC, Mark Hilton of Friendswood, TX, Matthew Hilton of Indianapolis, IN, Alan Zellmer of Portland, OR, James Hilton of McKinley, CA and Scott Zellmer of Portland, OR; eight great-grandchildren, Emily Kutlarck, Paul Zellmer, Karli, Collin and Keenan Hilton, Conor, Jaret and Brynn Zellmer.Nellie was preceded in death by her husband Albert; her parents Marc and Hannah Hansen; her sisters Dora Bornholdt, Minnie Zellmer; her brothers Hans and Ralph Hansen.Funeral InformationGraveside services will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2003, at 3:00 P.M. at the Brighton Township Cemetery with Reverend Sue Hyndman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, June 5, 2003 at the Roland Funeral Service in Atlantic. There will be a memorial service at a later date.
