Obituary for Norma Irene Rasmussen

Norma Irene Rasmussen
NORMA IRENE (JACOBSEN) RASMUSSEN A Celebration of Life for Norma Irene Jacobsen Rasmussen will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Monday, April 12 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic. There will be open visitation from 12:00 P.M. Sunday, April 11 until family will meet with relatives and friends that evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Following a luncheon, Norma's committal service will be held the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, Iowa. Norma passed away at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn on the evening of Thursday, April 8. She was 86 years old. Norma Irene Jacobsen was born December 1, 1923 to the parents of Jacob and Margaret Jacobsen on a farm near Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended a country school near Elk Horn. She was married to Norman Lee Rasmussen in Atlantic. The couple was blessed with a family of four. She worked at Bullocks, Olives and Anthonys clothing stores, in Atlantic, for many years. Norma enjoyed her work and meeting and enjoying many friends that she had made over those years. Norma loved being outside in her yard and loved her flowers and her cardinal birds. After retiring, she volunteered at Bedstemor's House, in Elk Horn, (where she could use the Danish that she knew). She also helped at the Danish Immigrant Museum and the Atlantic Hospital Auxiliary and was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic. She was active in Ladies Aid and helped with the church annual rummage sales. Norma faithfully followed sporting events with her children and grandchildren; she attended many football, basketball, cross country, tennis and track events. She enjoyed walking the sidelines and the fun of taking many walks with her grandchildren. Norma loved company and always had the coffee pot on and green Kool Aid in the "frig" for the kids. She would do anything for anyone; always had a story to tell and made everyone feel at home. She will be greatly missed by friends and family. To many of the grandchildren, she was just known as "Grandma Peaches" because it seemed like she always had peaches available when they would come over to visit. Those left to honor her memory are four children, daughter Vickie and husband Max Jones of Waukee, son Brad and his wife Lorrie of Glenwood, son Todd and his wife Amy of Boone and son Tab of Pisgah; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; one niece and two nephews, along with many beloved cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister, brother and her sister-in-law.Funeral InformationIN HER LOVING MEMORY Norma Irene RasmussenBORNDecember 1, 1923In Shelby County, IowaENTERED INTO RESTApril 8, 2010At the age of 86 years, 4 months, 7 daysFUNERAL SERVICEMonday, April 12, 201010:00 o"clock in the morningSt. Paul"s Lutheran ChurchAtlantic, IowaOFFICIATINGPastor Dennis MeyerPastor Sally MeyerSt. Paul"s Lutheran ChurchAtlantic, IowaSELECTED MUSIC"Oh Come All You Faithful&""In The Garden&""What A Friend We Have In Jesus&"ORGANISTEileen DenneHONORARY CASKET BEARERSNorma"s GrandsonsEric Rasmussen Bryant Rasmussen Todd William Rasmussen Mason Rasmussen Allen Jones Scott Jones Mike Jones Jason Jones COMMITTAL 12:30, April 8, 2010 At Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn, IowaLUNCHEON Norma"s family extends an invitation for friends to join them for a luncheon at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Atlantic.
