CHARLES "CHUCK" ROTH Charles "Chuck" Roth, age 88, passed away Monday, December 6, 2010, at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. Charles was born in Beldon, Nebraska to Christian and Pearl (Larsen) Roth on August 4, 1922. He attended school in Laurel, Nebraska graduating with the Laurel High School class of 1942. He joined the Marines, serving for four years, and after his discharge, he married Susie Osterman. Charles owned and operated the Wagon Wheel Steakhouse in Beldon and later built and operated the Wagon Wheel Steakhouse in Laurel. Chuck and Susie moved to Tucson, Arizona where he worked in the restaurant business there. They then moved to Iowa in 1987 and Charles managed the local Elks Lodge in Atlantic retiring in 1991. Following the death of Susie in 1988, Charles married Helen Kuhl in 1990 and they celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in September of this year. After retirement, Chuck and Helen enjoyed traveling including an Alaskan cruise, a Panama Canal cruise and trips to Arizona and Minaki, Minnesota. Charles is survived by his wife Helen Roth of Atlantic; a son Stewart Roth and wife Karen of Tucson, AZ; a son-in-law Dick Wright of Atlantic, IA; a step-son Lance Sortedahl of Omaha, NE; step-daughters, Sandy Smith and husband Rusty of Warsaw, MO and Lana Tanner and husband Brooke of Atlantic, IA; grandchildren, Shana (Kevin) Elwood of Treynor, IA and Levi (Blaire) Gade of Griswold, IA; step-grandchildren, Kristi Wright of Mandeville, LA, Dan (Teresa) Wright of Atlantic, IA, Charlotte Johnston of Tucson, AZ, Todd (Michelle) Tanner of Atlantic, IA, Kevin (Stacey) Dorsey of Centennial, CO, Jody (John) Wersinger of Springfield, MO, Julie (Dave) Wood of Ozark, MO, Chris Sortedahl of Ft. Dodge, IA and Clint (Lisa) Sortedahl of Ft. Dodge, IA. 28 great grandchildren; sister-in-law Glee Wildman of Atlantic, IA and brother-in-law Gail (Doris) Scheef of Versailles, KY. He was preceded is death by his parents; brothers, Alvin Roth and Benny Roth as an infant; his first wife Susie; son Donald Roth; daughter Pam Wright; step-grandsons, Rick Wright and Scott Tanner.Funeral Information There will be an open visitation daily from 8:00 - 5:30 at the Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic until the time of services for Chuck which will be held on Thursday, December 9, at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Leon Hodge will be officiating.
