ALICE GENEVIEVE ROWLEY Alice Genevieve Rowley of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at the Heritage House in Atlantic at the age or 97 years, 4 months and 17 days. Alice was born on January 7, 1914 in New Providence, Iowa, the daughter of John and May (Hawk) Martin. She was educated in the local schools, graduating in 1932. She furthered her studies at William Penn College and Friends University, graduating in 1938. She then began a teaching career which lasted until her marriage to Reverend Fred Rowley on July 27, 1947. Still quite active, Alice maintained her own home for several years until entering Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa. She loved music and was faithful in sharing her talents where ever she and Fred were serving. Alice was a passionate quilter and made bed quilts for all her nieces and nephews as well as supplying quilts to be sold at many churches. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Fred; two brothers, Gilbert and Willard and one sister Jeannette. Alice is survived by a sister Luanna Strickland of Odenton, MD and a brother Neil Martin and wife Peggy of Marshalltown, IA; numerous nephews and nieces.Funeral Information There will be open visitation at the Roland Funeral Home Thursday, Friday and Monday, May 26, 27 and 30 from 8:00 - 5:30. A family visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 31, from 9:30 to 10:30 an hour before the service. The funeral service for Alice will be held at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday morning at 10:30 with Pastor Lanette Plambeck officiating. Committal will be in the Atlantic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to her family.
