Obituary for Laymond Williams

Laymond Williams, 73, of Atlantic, formerly of Walnut, Iowa, died on Sunday, November 1, 2020, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Laymond Ray Williams, the son of Henry and Goldie (Wilkins) Williams was born on October 27, 1947, in Atlantic, Iowa. Laymond attended country school and grew up on a farm near Lewis. He loved fishing, riding horses and playing with his pet squirrel, that also ran around his home. Later in life he started to work for a dairy farm north of Lewis and then for a construction firm out of Harlan where he helped build roads throughout southwest Iowa.

One day while bowling at the Hawkeye Lanes in downtown Atlantic, he was introduced to his bride to be, Linda Marie Glines. They wed on April 22, 1978, in Atlantic, Iowa. In 1983, the family moved to a farm outside of Walnut, and he worked as a farm hand for George Gross. Laymond later took a job with the Pottawattamie County Secondary Road Department where he worked until his retirement. Since his retirement, Laymond liked to spend time watching Family Feud, Gunsmoke (any old western really), watching the stock market and spending time with his grandchildren.

Laymond is survived by his wife of 42 years, Linda Williams of Atlantic; son, Tim (Ruth) Glines of Atlantic; daughters, Tinna (Roger) Arbuckle of Walnut, Brenda Osborn of Council Bluffs, and Tanya Stein of Atlantic; grandchildren, Tanner Glines, Justin Glines, Randy (Courtlyn) Arbuckle, Shelby (Gustavo) Gonzales, Heather (David) Lovan, Mark Osborn Jr., Makala (Trevor) Sandbothe, Tyler Osborn, Travis Osborn, Tayten Stein, and Tytus Stein; great-grandchildren, Tristan Arbuckle, Keagin Arbuckle, Diego Gonzales, Leylou Gonzales, Carter Sandbothe, and Carson Sandbothe; sister, Ann Marie (Keith) Hastie of Glenwood; nephew, Karl (Sue Ann) Hastie of Glenwood.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Goldie Williams; brothers, Roger Williams, Donnie Williams; son-in-law, Tim Stein; sister-in-law, Marie Farmer, and his mother and father-in-law, Albert and Alice Farmer.

A Celebration of Life Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Military rites, by the Atlantic Color Guard, will be held following the service. Burial will be held at a later date in the Brighton Township Cemetery, north of Marne.
