Obituary for Joey Weihs
Joey Weihs, 46, of Marne, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 29, 2020, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.
Joseph Dean was born on November 28, 1973, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Harold "Sonny" J.J. and Letha L. (Ward) Weihs. He grew up in the Atlantic and Marne areas and attended Atlantic High School. As the youngest child he enjoyed spending time with his siblings snowmobiling and hunting rabbits and squirrels. His love of fishing started at an early age and he looked forward to fishing with his father around the area and also on the Red River in North Dakota.
He worked for Thielen Trucking for many years during the annual wheat harvest, starting in Texas and working his way up through North and South Dakota. While in the Dakotas he was able to find some great fishing spots that he and his family were able to return to. Joe most recently worked as a farmhand south of Marne for Winn Winston, and was looking forward to getting in the combine this fall.
Joey and his brother, Jeff were two peas in a pod; they planted a large garden each spring and also spent hours hunting for mushrooms. These outings were sure to create a few memorable moments; one being Joey barrel rolling down a hill, somehow missing all the trees, and coming to rest right next to a patch of mushrooms. His favorite colors were red and white and this was no surprise as he was an avid Kansas City Chiefs fan and rooted for the Earnhardts in NASCAR. Joey looked forward to tipping back a few beers with family and friends; a few of his favorite outings being the annual Cattlemen’s Golf Tournament and getting together for a game of Euchre.
Joe will be missed by his brothers, Doug Weihs of Manson, Dennis Weihs of Marne, John Weihs of Walnut; sister, Suzy (Sara Ferrell) Weihs of Overland Park, Kansas; sister-in-law, Amy Weihs of Walnut; beloved dog, Riley; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Dan Weihs and Jeff “Animal” Weihs; and niece, Whitney L. Weihs.
A Celebration of Life graveside service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2020 at Brighton Township Cemetery, northeast of Marne, with Pastor Jerry Neal of the First United Methodist Church officiating.
