Obituary for Bud Lindeman

Print
Bud Lindeman, 92, a lifetime resident of Cass County, passed away peacefully at the Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa, Wednesday, November 28, 2018.

Lloyd Barton Lindeman was born on January 27, 1926, to Cal and Alma (Wohlenhaus) Lindeman in Lyman, Iowa, the fifth of seven children.

“Bud,” as he was known to most people, graduated from Atlantic High School after excelling in all sports. He lettered in football, basketball, and track. Bud also started dating the love of his life, Doris Jane Worthington, whom he had met in Sunday School as a child. Drafted to join the forces in WWII, Bud received a deferment until he graduated.

After basic training, Bud was sent as a replacement in the 84th Infantry Division at the front lines of the Battle of the Bulge. When the war ended, he stayed for the occupation in Germany. When he was finally sent home, he left Germany as a 19-year-old First Sergeant. His sweetheart, Doris Jane, was waiting for him as he exited the train in Atlantic, and they were joyfully united in marriage in her parents' Atlantic home on July 2, 1947.

Bud and Doris Jane enjoyed 66 years together. They moved to Los Angeles, California, where he managed an airplane parts manufacturing business. Returning to Atlantic, Bud joined his father-in-law, in the Worthington Hatchery, which Bud eventually took over. As an entrepreneur, Bud ventured into an automated poultry raising operation and custom ground feed.

A born leader, Bud served on the Atlantic City Council, as president of the Iowa Egg Council, president of the Iowa Bible Camp Board, and member of the Gideons. He was on the board that brought the YMCA to Atlantic. He served as an Elder at Atlantic Gospel Chapel.

Bud lived his life for his Savior and often commented that the two best decisions he made were accepting Jesus as his Savior and marrying Doris Jane. They were blessed with three daughters, who they raised to love Jesus, too.

An avid outdoorsman, Bud enjoyed many hobbies. He made numerous fishing trips to Canada. He hunted almost his entire life. Woodworking occupied many of his retirement hours including making many Bible School projects. He loved to fix things, and volunteered his time helping others with remodeling projects. Bud presented his war experiences to high school students throughout southwest Iowa.

Bud is survived by his daughters, Linda Jane (Eddie) Skains of Sherwood, AR, Susan Beth (Johnny) Mitchell of Horseshoe Bay, TX; Barbara Ann Lindeman (Laurence Rohrer) of Columbia, MO; grandchildren, Jennifer Rebecca (Ryan) Bessler of Minneapolis, MN, Heather Lynn (Noah) Kinder of Sherwood, AR, Sarah Jane (Mark) Ferguson of Dallas, TX, and Jonathan Lloyd (Alison) Mitchell of Santa Barbara, CA; and seven great- grandchildren, Luke Barton Kinder, Emma Grace Kinder, Abigail Grace Mitchell, Rose Katherine Ferguson, Naomi Jane Ferguson, Josiah Nathan Mitchell and Wesley John Bessler. He is also survived by sisters, Martha Jane Lehmkuhl and Grace Rathkamp, and brother, C.G. (Helen) Lindeman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Doris Jane; and three sisters, Pauline Martens-Schuler, Lois Wagner and Betty Riley.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Atlantic Gospel Chapel with Mike Eells, officiating. A private burial, with military honors by the Atlantic Color Guard, will take place at the Atlantic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the family for designation at a later date to the Gideons and Immanuel Mission.

Roland Funeral Service is caring for Bud’s family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
