Obituary for Richard "Rich" J. Weaver

Richard “Rich” Weaver, 67, of Atlantic, Iowa, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, November 27, 2018, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Richard James Weaver was born May 1, 1951 – May Day! He was born to Lester and Aleen (Christensen) Weaver, the fourth of seven children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Rich attended Atlantic schools, graduating with the class of 1969. He and his fellow sprinters held the record in track for a very long time in the Hawkeye Ten conference long after Rich graduated. Thus, he was nicknamed “Dash” in school.

Upon graduating in 1969, Rich headed to Clarinda where he attended Clarinda Community College. While there, Rich sang in the college choir and travelled to various churches to perform. After graduating, he transferred to Iowa State University where his love of the Cyclones grew to fruition. He would begin going to each football game beginning in 1972, and continue to go until he and Linda attended their last game on October 27 of this year. While in Ames, Rich began working for Woolworth Stores, and he eventually managed stores in Story City, Iowa, Edina, Minnesota, and LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Upon the death of his father in 1980, Rich made the decision to head home to Atlantic and take over his father’s crop insurance business, Weaver Insurance, in 1981. Rich sold crop insurance and was a crop adjuster for 33 years.

Thirty years ago this month, Rich and Linda met; they were married June 22, 1991. Rich’s successful salesmanship with Farmers Mutual Hail garnered him and Linda some wonderful trips together – sweet memories.

Rich’s sweet and joyful spirit will be sorely missed by so many. He is survived by his wife, Linda; sons, Sean, Shane (Karen) and Derek (Lisa); daughters, Stephanie (Shawn) and Amy (Travis); grandchildren, Anna Marie, Mackenzie Grace, Emma Lea, Seth and Leah, Paige and Trevor. Fabier, Deydy and Juan are three compassion children that Rich and Linda have sponsored for 15 years and continue to support.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Aleen Weaver and brother, Ron.

Lord, thank you for giving Rich to us. The memories will go with us forever, and we give You all the glory. Amen. 2 Corinthians 8:9 “For you know the grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for our sake He became poor, so that we through His poverty, might become rich”

Visitation with the family present will be held prior to the service on Saturday, starting at 9:30 a.m., at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 1, 2018, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church, with Pastor Keith Menter officiating. Burial will be held at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.
