Obituary for Pam Kuehl

Pamela Sue (Batman) Kuehl, age 69 of Atlantic, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with early onset Alzheimer’s on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. Funeral services will be on Monday, October 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with burial to follow in the Brighton Township Cemetery near Marne. The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 14, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home.

Pam was born October 14, 1948 in Jewell, the daughter of Frank Allen and Olive Lucille (Johnson) Batman. She attended school in Roland-Story and Ames, graduating from Ames High School in 1966. She then attended Iowa State University, studying Fashion Merchandising and Design, where she met the love of her life, Dale Kuehl. They were united in marriage June 24, 1968 in Atlantic. To this union, two children were born, Joseph Dale (J.D.) and Danielle Suzanne. They lived in various locations, following job opportunities for Dale, before moving to a farm near Marne in 1977.

Pam was well known as a quilt designer and instructor, teaching and marketing her quilts and patterns throughout the Midwest through her Patchworks company, while also working at Prairie Star Quilts in Elk Horn. She was a longtime instructor at Twin Lakes Bible Camp Quilt Retreats, one of her favorite places to teach. She co-founded and coordinated Cinnamon Season Boutiques and Heartwarmers Boutiques, semi-annual showcases in Atlantic and Omaha, where local craft and artisan talents displayed and sold their wares. Pam also served several years on the Atlantic Community School District School Board, including a stint as School Board President. She was active with PEO, was a strong supporter and volunteer with 4-H and a passionate volunteer for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, serving as an inspiration to others as a cancer survivor.

Pam enjoyed taking care of her flowers and gardens and furthered her knowledge by attaining the Master Gardener certification. She loved to spend time with her family, including taking her grandkids on “Grammy Pammy Dates.” Her love for Iowa State football and basketball was “Forever True.” As longtime season ticket holders, she and Dale enjoyed traveling to bowl games and post-season tournament basketball games with Danielle and Scott. Of course, she was always proudly decked out in Iowa State gear.

Pam’s zest for life and her fun-loving attitude were evident whether it was the Batman clothing she often wore head to toe or even the purple panties she and her family sported while she battled cancer and won. Her infectious smile and personality were always on display and will be missed by all.

Pam is survived by her husband, Dale of Atlantic; her children J.D. (Melanie) Kuehl of Urbandale and Danielle (Scott) Pollock of Earlham; her grandchildren Emma Kuehl, Hannah Kuehl and Dillon Kuehl of Urbandale and Kayleigh Pollock of Urbandale; her siblings Larry (Koleen) Batman of Kountze, TX, Carolyn (William) Watson of Ames and Becky Batman of Urbandale; her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Wallace Anderson of Genoa, IL, Dennis (Suzanne) Kuehl of Atlantic, Diana (Dennis) Stucker of Clay, NY and Dallas (Mary Pat) Kuehl of Fulshear, TX; and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Olive Batman; her sister, Faye Ann Anderson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Everett and Joan Kuehl; and her nephew and godson, T.J. Reinsch.
