Condolences & Tributes

We encourage you to share any memorable photos or stories about Phillip. All tributes placed on and purchased through this memorial website will remain on in perpetuity for future generations.

My deepest sympathy to the Chinitz family. My parents, the late Delbert & Mabel Hobbs, loved visiting with Phillip and Treena. May family and friends bring comfort and a smile in the days ahead.

Sending love and prayers. Remembering how Phil would bring us Roland kids buckeyes as he walked by our home on 5th street. Such a sweet, simple gesture.

Many fond memories of Phil- my husband Merl and he were follow journalists and always enjoyed visiting when covering various athletic events when Atlantic and Clarinda were competing. Thoughts and prayers to the family during their time of loss and in the days ahead.

Phil was a true gentleman and a book of knowledge regarding sports, Atlantic history,on and on. Bob always said he made him look good in write ups of details after games. Phil was a really good sports writer and those guys are hard to come by anymore. Details! Our sincere sympathy to Trina and Anna!

Phil was my mentor in journalism. I was a college graduate starting at the News Telegraph in January 1980 and stayed through the fall of 1984. He taught me all of the important basics involved news and sports writing. We visited Phil and Trena at Heritage House a few years ago and I told him I owed so much to him for the fact I was able to have a long career in the business. He was an icon in Atlantic for the many long hours he devoted to informing the residents in a professional manner.

Phil practiced old school journalism -- the way it should be. He was giving, smart, funny, helpful, caring, and so many other attributes we cherish in people. Condolences to Trena and Anna.
