Obituary for Dale Myers

Dale Myers, 83, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, August 6, 2018, at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.

Dale Leroy Myers, son of Leo and Imo (Clemmensen) Myers was born NW of Audubon in Douglas Township, August 17, 1934. He lived his whole life in Audubon County before moving to Atlantic in 1999.

Dale graduated from Atlantic High School in 1952. He attended Iowa State College for Animal Husbandry. He was drafted into the Army in 1954, and spent sixteen months in Korea with the Korean Military Advisory Group in classified security. He was honorably discharged in May of 1956.

On June 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Sheryl Trumbo at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. To this union two children were born, Sherry and Brent. He was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he was baptized and confirmed.

He farmed north of Atlantic, until moving to town in 1999. His favorite part of farming was feeding cattle and working with his cows and calves. Dale was a real estate agent for Century 21 Dement Realty for twelve years after retiring from farming.

Dale was a member of the Nishna Hills Golf Course and served a term on the board as Vice-President. He also held memberships at the Elk’s Club, American Legion, and served as Oakfield Township Trustee for 25 years. Dale was a volunteer for hospital auxiliary, former board member of Church Council at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and past member of Lion’s Club, Cass County Cattlemen, and Jaycees.

Dale enjoyed working in the yard, reading, golfing, and especially watching his grandchildren in their various activities. He was proud of his military service and enjoyed the Freedom Flight to Washington, D.C. in 2014.

Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years Sheryl; his children, Sherry Kaufman and her husband, Mark of Harlan and Brent Myers and his wife, Jan of Atlantic; grandchildren, Zach (Kaitlynn) Kaufman, Jon (Dena) Kaufman, Mallory (Jay) Robinson, Megan (Chase) Mewhirter and Nick Myers and girlfriend, Michaela Knudsen; great grandchildren, Hallie Robinson, Colton, Carsyn and Chloe Mewhirter, Peyton, Henry and Maci Kaufman; brother-in-law, Jack Bell of Atlantic; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Imo Myers; sisters, Doris J. Bell and Charlotte A. Behrends; brother-in-law, Marvin Behrends; mother-in-law Helen Dyer; father-in-law, Donald Trumbo; step-father-in-law, Quentin Dyer; and grandparents.

Visitation with the family will be held Thursday, August 9th, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 10, 2018, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Atlantic. Burial, with military honors by the Atlantic Color Guard, will be held in the Atlantic Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church or the Wounded Warriors Project.
