Obituary for Richard E. Reed

Richard “Dick” E. Reed, 92, of Lake Havasu City, Arizona, formerly of Wiota, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 19, 2018, at his home.

Richard Edward Reed was born on September 11, 1925, in Wiota, Iowa, the son of Frank (Rusty) and Cecil (Mailander) Reed. During high school Dick enlisted in the United States Army; serving as a medic during WWII. He returned home and graduated from Wiota High School. Following graduation Dick returned to the Army Air Corp. Dick was united in marriage to Lucille “Lucy” Lewis in 1947. While Dick served his country, the couple lived numerous places, Alaska and Germany being their favorites. In 1965, he retired from the service after 22 years; earning the rank of Senior Master Sergeant E9. Dick worked as a dental tech for Catalina Dental; a business he owned and operated in Tucson, Arizona for 55 years. While Dick supported the family, Lucy stayed home to take care of the children and in later years was a devoted homemaker. In retirement he and Lucille enjoyed spending time with family and traveling.

Dick is survived by his children, Charles “Chuck” (Carolyn) Reed of TX, Frank “Rusty” (Kris) Reed of AZ, and Cheryl (Michael) Rice of AZ; grandchildren, Mikel, Timmy, Alex, and Morgan; brothers, Howard Reed of Council Bluffs, Lloyd (Wanda) Reed of Atlantic; sisters, Benita (Russ) Rasmussen and Marlene (Ralph) Anderson all of Atlantic; sisters-in-law, Norma Reed and Rosie Hansen both of Atlantic; and brothers-in-law, Larry Statin of NE and Frank Altemeier of IA.

Dick is preceded in death by the love of his life and wife, Lucille “Lucy” Reed in 2003; infant son, Michael; daughter, Marcia Mackey; granddaughter, Kristen Reed; brother, Duane Reed; brothers-in-law, Bob and Jim; and sisters-in-law, Betty and Dorothy.

A Scripture service in memory of Richard (Dick) and Lucille Reed will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Roland Funeral Home with Father Chinna Devaraj of SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church as Celebrant. Visitation with the family present will be held prior one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial, with military honors by the Atlantic Color Guard, will be held in the SS Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery.
