Obituary for Marion F. Perdue

Marion Perdue, 95, of Atlantic, passed away Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Caring Acres in Anita.

Marion Franklin Perdue was born on March 13, 1922, in Lewis, Iowa, the son of Jesse Franklin and Sadie E. (Purcell) Perdue. He had fond memories of playing football; graduating from Lewis High School in 1940. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Martin on February 8, 1942, in Maryville, Missouri.

On December 14, 1942, Marion enlisted in the United States Army serving until his honorable discharge on November 2, 1945. As Sergeant he served with the 36th “T-Patch” Division in the European Theater as well as other missions; his primary duty was to seek out enemy targets. He was a POW from December 14, 1944, to April 29, 1945.

Marion owned and operated Perdue Electric in Atlantic for over 60 years, in addition to his rental properties. As a landlord he always enjoyed the relationships he made with his tenants. Marion maintained his rentals and continued his outdoor work at home into his 90’s. Marion and Dorothy took many trips through the years, and annually visited the Covered Bridge and Tulip Festivals. One of his most memorable trips was to Lake Louise in Canada. One of the couple’s favorite pastimes was dancing; traveling 100’s of miles at times. Time with family was something he treasured most; making countless memories for his grand kids. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, American Legion and a life member of the VFW.
