Obituary for Laura Champlin
Laura L. Champlin, 52, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, November 20, 2017, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Laura Lee was born on October 15, 1965, in Greenfield, Iowa, the daughter of Gary Holaday and Leona Park. She attended Atlantic schools, graduating with the Class of 1984. On January 29, 2000, she was united in marriage to Brian Champlin at the Church of the Nazarene in Atlantic. Laura worked at Phillips 66 before starting her career at Dave Jones Agency. While working there for the last 13 years she served as an administrative assistant and also sold insurance policies.
In her spare time Laura could be found relishing in a good romance novel or being outdoors with her hands in the dirt in her various flower beds. She loved to vacation; preferring cruises. One of her favorite ones was to the Bahamas; she loved it so much she went three times! One thing that made these trips special to her was that she was surrounded by family. Laura wanted the best for her family; always loyal and there for them. She was the one to go to if you needed an honest opinion; always to the point and never sugar coated her feelings.
Laura will be deeply missed by her husband, Brian; sons, Tyler (Jordan Westphalen) Mikkelsen and Nathan (Kelsey Johnson) Mikkelsen; daughter, Kylee Champlin; mothers, Leona Park and Anna (George) Evans; siblings, Don (Trudy) Holaday, Gene (Jennifer) Holaday, Karmen (Clint) Roland, Kevin Holaday, Katie Holaday, Mistie Holaday, Kristen Holaday, Abby Evans, Toni Hansen and Matt Hansen; nieces and nephews, Samantha Holaday, Nick Renner, Eric Renner, Breanna Roland, Derek Roland, Bailey Roland, Cole Holaday, Gabby Holaday, Dante Hedrington, Donovan Hedrington, Lennon Claussen, Zander Pieken, Makenna Champlin, and Jayce Champlin; parents-in-law, Dawn (Philip Theodore) Chalmers and Edward Champlin; and brother-in-law, Corey (Tammy) Champlin.
She is preceded in death by her father, Gary Holaday; and step-father, Joshua Park.
Visitation with the family present will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 24, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 25, 2017, at 1st Assembly with Pastor Guy Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Atlantic Cemetery.
The family prefers memorials be given in Laura’s name to Cass County Relay for Life.
