Obituary for Irma R. Frisbie

Irma R. Frisbie
Irma R. Frisbie, 85, of Atlantic, passed away, Monday, September 11, 2017, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Irma Ruth was born on December 9, 1931, in Cass County, Iowa, the daughter of George Stanley and Myrtle Blanche (Jones) Wood. She grew up on the family farm, and at the age of five when her mother passed away took on a lot of responsibility around the house and caring for her brother, John. Irma attended school in Wiota, and graduated from Wiota High School in 1949.

On September 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Bruce Nels Frisbie at the Wiota United Methodist Church. The couple moved to the family farm, where they worked side-by-side farming and raising their family. Irma dressed chickens and tended to her large garden, which produced a bounty of strawberries, rhubarb, green beans, potatoes and many other varieties of produce. Her children recall her wonderful jam and the fruits of her labor being enjoyed year round. She did all of this after her morning shift was over at the Heritage House, where she worked in Dietary for over 35 years. In later years, she babysat the grandkids providing them treasured memories; pop out of glass bottles was always a special treat.

Irma was involved in her children’s activities, and volunteered her time to help out their 4-H and FFA groups. She looked forward to making pies for the Cass County Fair, and visiting the Iowa State Fair with family and friends. Irma was a hard worker and always on the go, but in her quieter moments she enjoyed reading and painting on fabric with Tri-Chem.

Irma was a 67-year member of the Rebekah’s, and was active in Rebekah Lodge #87 in Atlantic and Rebekah Lodge #480 in Griswold. She looked forward to monthly gatherings of the Maple Dale’s Neighborhood Club. She was also a member of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church Women, Heritage House Guild, and Atlantic Specialty Care Auxiliary.

Irma will be deeply missed by her children, Robert (Mary) Frisbie of Atchison, KS, Diane (Russell) Hansen of Lewis, IA, Terry (Marjorie) Frisbie of Walnut, and Steven Frisbie of Atlantic; grandchildren, Suzanne (Rick) Holmes, Jody King, Alex Hansen, Stephanie Hansen, Emily (William) Mathis, Rebecca (Benjamin) Caldwell, Victoria (Ryan) Means and Luke Frisbie; 8 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Marilyn (Kenneth) Gard of Atlantic, IA; brothers, Tom (Sue) Wood and John Wood all of Texas; sister-in-law, Carol Wood of Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bruce Frisbie; step-granddaughter, Marsha Simpson; great-granddaughter, Kenzlee Sue Rae Jacobsen; brother, Gilbert Wood; and sister-in-law, Eva Wood.

A Rebekah Memorial Service will be held at 6:00 p.m., followed by visitation with the family will until 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 15, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 16, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic, with Pastor Jerry Neal of the Buck Creek United Methodist Church officiating.
