Obituary for Margaret M Lowary

Margaret M Lowary
Margaret M. Lowary, 78, of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Margaret Marie was born on April 11, 1939, the youngest of eight children born to Jacob and Milda (Hass) Pieken. She graduated from Atlantic High School in 1958.

She was employed as a legal secretary for Dick Howard at Howard Law Firm for many years, and later worked at the Clerk of Court's office at the Cass County Courthouse until her retirement. In January of 1982, she married Jim Lowary. After retirement they enjoyed time with grandchildren and took many memorable trips. Margaret loved the outdoors and one of her favorite adventures was to Canada where they took in all wilderness had to offer, including watching moose and bear. Because of the avid fisherman she was, this also may have been one of her favorite trips as she out-caught Jim. Margaret also took time to hunt, track wild boar and go sight fishing. The couple spent many years wintering in Florida; meeting countless friends along the way. Margaret loved to take long walks and visit with everyone who crossed her path. She never met a stranger and wherever she was, she prized conversation with people of all ages, stages and backgrounds. She was famous for her dry sense of humor, stories and jokes; many will remember her "blonde jokes."

Margaret will be deeply missed by her husband, Jim; daughters, Becky Steffens and Deanna (Daman) Mott; son, Jeff (Denise) Lowary; grandchildren, Justin and Preston Harter, Derek, Cole and Annamaria Lowary, and Damanique and Delaney Mott; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Janice (Bart) Blake; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Floyd Pieken, Ronald Pieken, Norma Campbell, Dorothy Walter, Ruth Brown and Kenneth Pieken; son-in-law, Brian Steffens; and mother-in-law, Jenny Farley.

A Celebration of Margaret's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, May 1, 2017, at St. John's United Church of Christ, south of Lyman.

Burial will be held prior to the service in the Atlantic Cemetery.
