Obituary for Lanny C Harris
Lanny C. Harris, 67, of Atlantic, passed away Monday, April 17, 2017, at Allen Place in Atlantic.
Lanny Clyde Harris was born on May 8, 1949, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Giles T. and Eileen Alice (Cox) Harris. He attended school in Atlantic and graduated in the Class of 1969. After graduation Newell Bower asked for his help and they worked alongside each other at Bower's Bakery for the next 17 years. Lanny also worked at McDonald's for 13 years. He always appreciated the kindness he was shown by both the Bower's and Mueller's.
Lanny had a deep love for and faith in our Lord and had accepted Christ as his Lord; he always looked forward to weekly visits from Unity Point Hospice Chaplain, Ted Weishaupt. He was an avid reader; always adding new books to his large library and reading various subjects and titles. When he wasn't reading he would catch a basketball game on television, especially if the Golden State Warriors were playing. Over the years he had acquired a large rock collection and enjoyed learning about them and sharing with others. Lanny walked countless miles around Atlantic through the years enjoying chats at the bank, library and Templeman's, just to name a few of his stops. Those he had conversation with at work or around town recall his kindness and dry sense of humor, filled with one liners!
He moved to Allen Place several months ago and the staff received him with a warm welcome. He enjoyed the fellowship of these good people and those of Unity Point Hospice.
Lanny is survived by his cousins, other relatives and friends including Joan (Gerald) Brink of Atlantic, Judy Elwood of Atlantic, Sandi (LeRoy) Easter of Lewis, Dennis (Sharon) Witt of Atlantic, Doug Witt of Atlantic, Candice Christensen of Atlantic, Darlene Johnson of Florida, Jean Schwanke of Arkansas, Sonny Gordon of Harlan, Joe (Donna) Eblen of Atlantic, Richard Eblen of Westlake, Louisiana, Sheryl (Frank) Waters, Colette (Jeff) Sparks, and Don (Pam) Prall.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Giles and Eileen Harris.
A Celebration of Lanny's Life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, April 20, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home.
Lanny has gifted his body to the University of Iowa Deeded Body Program, and an inurnment will take place at a later date in the Atlantic Cemetery.
