Bryan Rutherford, 58, of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2017, at his home in Atlantic.

Bryan O'Neil was born December 24, 1958, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Bobby Gene and Ellen Louise (Morton) Rutherford. He attended Atlantic Community Schools, received his Associates Degree from Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs, and continued his education at the University of Iowa in Iowa City.

On September 9, 1977, he was united in marriage to Debora Anderson at the United Methodist Church in Red Oak, Iowa. One son, Blue was born to this union. He was employed by Doug Radford where he installed carpet and vinyl flooring for several years. On August 13, 1989, he was united in marriage to Julie Ann Klein at Brown's Chapel in Indianola, Iowa. One son, Page was born to this union. During this time he continued to install flooring. In the early 2000's he lived various places, and worked for UPS and Adventureland for a few years. In 2012, he moved to Bakersfield, California and in 2013, returned and made his home in Atlantic.

Bryan enjoyed searching anywhere he could for arrowheads. At a young age he started collecting diecast cars and continued this through his life. He had a very creative mind composing everything from detailed drawings to writing numerous poems and songs over the years. Bryan believed in Eastern Philosophy and the spiritual values of Buddhism. He was a thrill seeker and loved anything that involved cars and speed including NHRA Drag Racing and NASCAR.

There was nothing Bryan loved more than spending time with his family. He was one of the most kind hearted people you would ever meet; helping anyone out and giving them whatever he could. No matter the circumstance he always maintained a positive attitude, always looking up even when things were at their worst.

Bryan is survived by his sons, Blue (Lisa) Rutherford of Omaha, NE and Page (Courtney) Rutherford of Coralville, IA; grandchildren, Tavian, Noah, Dreyah, Ashton, Talia, Brianna, Jakobe and Brody; mother, Ellen Rutherford of Atlantic, IA; brother, Paul (Lori) Rutherford of Atlantic, IA; sister, Tammie (Craig) Shellberg of Oakland, IA; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He is preceded in death by his dad, Bobby Rutherford.

A Celebration of Life Potluck Service will be held Sunday, April 30, 2017, at the Cass County Community Center at 12:00 p.m. noon.
