Obituary for Larry Edward Brown

Larry Edward  Brown
Larry Brown, 76, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017, at University of Nebraska Medical Center, Omaha, Nebraska.

Larry Edward, the son of Clifford and Isabelle (Kaufman) Brown was born October 13, 1940, in Creston, Iowa. He attended rural school at Richland Schools in Williamson Township near Orient, Iowa, graduating with the High School Class of 1958. After school he was employed with Sinner Motor Company in Greenfield, Iowa until enlisting in the United States Air Force on April 9, 1963. During his tour of duty Larry served during the Vietnam War. He also had missions in Indonesia, Iran, Indochina and Tawian as well as several in the United States.

On August 6, 1966, he was united in marriage to Janice Meece at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Two children were born to this union. They made their home in Oklahoma City until he was honorably discharged on April 30, 1983. At that time they moved back to Iowa, deciding to make Atlantic their home in 1986. He was employed at the bearing factory (which is now Mahle) until retiring in 1999, due to declining health.

In the off times when he wasn't directly serving his country or working otherwise, he loved to golf, fish, hunt, play cards and go bowling. Larry was a member of the Elk's Lodge #445 in Atlantic; V.F.W. in Union County; Nishna Hills Golf Course and the Nishna Valley YMCA.

Larry is survived by, his wife, Janice Brown of Atlantic, Iowa; his children, Susan and husband, Kyle Nice of San Antonio, Texas, Charles Brown of Des Moines, Iowa; his grandchildren, Christopher Nice and Kristen Nice both of Austin, Texas, his sisters, Betty Eirsman of Atlantic and Linda Brown of Exira, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, March 24, 2017, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic with Reverend Melissa Warren officiating. Interment will be in the Greenfield Cemetery, Greenfield, Iowa at 2:30 p.m.

Open visitation will be available from 12:00 p.m., on Thursday, March 23. Visitation with the family present will be Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Roland Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the family, the Elk's Lodge #445 in Atlantic or the Nishna Hills Golf Course in memory of Larry.
