Obituary for Marion Reimer

Marion Reimer
Marion Reimer, 89, of Atlantic, passed away Friday, November 11, 2016, at Heritage House in Atlantic.

Marion Gale Reimer was born April 1, 1927, on a farm near Walnut, Iowa, to Marx and Meta (Rossman) Reimer, the youngest of 14 children. Marion grew up in rural Walnut and graduated from Walnut High School in 1944. Following graduation, he worked in Atlantic, and in 1952, met his future wife, Margaret McDole, at a dance in Griswold. The couple were married at the 1st Congregational Church in Dunlap on June 13, 1953, and made their home in Atlantic, where Marion held several jobs. His long-term employment was as a weigh master with Schildberg Construction Company, dispatching rock, sand, gravel and lime trucks to projects in the surrounding area. Marion and Margaret had three children.

Marion enjoyed sporting events, especially those of his children, fishing, barbeque, home-made ice cream, watermelon shared with family and friends, rural life and evenings outside after dinner. He also enjoyed traveling after retirement with his wife and family on group excursions. He and Margaret traveled to Germany and Italy to see extended family and to visit Daniella Benedetti, who lived with the Reimer family for a year as an exchange student. Marion was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder, Marne Masonic Lodge and Shriners.

He is preceded in death by his wife, parents and siblings. His siblings living to adulthood were Clarence, Viola, Raymond, Lucile, Everett, Eleanor, Melvern, Winifred, Orville, Geneva and Geraldine. Marion is survived by his children, Randy (Sonja) Reimer of Rochester, Minn., Renee (Gayle) Reimer of Omaha, Neb., and Russell (Laura) Reimer of Decatur, Ill.; grandchildren, Rachel (Zach) Maxwell, Sarah Velasquez, John Reimer, Grant Reimer, Olivia Reimer, Samuel Reimer and Regan Reimer; and great-grandchildren, Graham, Emmett and Joel Maxwell, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Marion was a loving and devoted husband and father who had a kind word for all he met. He will be missed by all who knew him. His passing marks the first time since 1902 that no child of the original Marx and Meta Reimer family will reside in Cass County.

Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2016, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2016, at the First United Presbyterian Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Suzanne Gorhau officiating. Interment will held prior to the service at 8:30 a.m. at Layton Township Cemetery in Walnut.

The family asks that memorials be directed to First United Presbyterian Church, CASS, Inc. or Heritage House Good Samaritan Fund.

Roland Funeral Home is caring for Marion's family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com
