Gene Ehrman, 87, of Atlantic, passed away early Saturday, January 16, at the Josie Harper Hospice House in Omaha, Nebraska.

The son of Theodore and Valda (Shey) Ehrman, Francis Eugene "Gene" was born at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Wiota, Iowa. Gene attended school in Wiota, graduating with the High School Class of 1947. After graduation, he helped his father with everyday operations on the family farm. In 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army. Gene operated the family farm north of Wiota, where they had a dairy operation and raised row crops. In 1986, he retired from farming and they continued to enjoy their home on the farm. Mary died March 2, 2010. In 2012, Gene made his home at the Heritage House in Atlantic, until he moved in November of 2015, to Crown Pointe Assisted Living in Omaha.

Gene was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul's Catholic Church, where he served as on the Parish Council. He was an avid reader and history buff and he and Mary enjoyed traveling together. Spending time with his family was a highlight for Gene, especially his grandchildren.
