Obituary for Faye E. Ihnen

On Sunday, December 6, 2015, at 5:30 p.m., Faye Elsie (Boseck) Ihnen, joined the angels in worshiping her Lord in heaven. At the age of 99, she is celebrating the victory that is ours through God’s gift of grace in Jesus, our Savior.

Faye Elsie Boseck was born to Christian Rudolf and Martha Emma (Hampel) Boseck January 22, 1916, at their country home east of Griswold, where her parents farmed. She had two brothers and seven sisters (one sister living only six days). While growing up, she preferred being outside and working in the fields with her dad. Living through the great depression forever influenced a lifestyle of “waste not-want not”.

Faye graduated from Atlantic High School in l932, and taught country school two and a half years before marrying the love of her life, Arnold Edwin Ihnen on July 5, l936. They were blessed with three daughters; Janet, Joan and Judy. The couple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in l986.

Faye and Arnold owned and operated Norway Center Store and Garage, south of Wiota, from l936 to l980. The business was then turned over to their daughter, Janet and son-in-law, Don Steffens. After retirement, they enjoyed Canadian fishing during the summers and wintered in Texas prior to Arnold’s passing.

Faye was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church of Wiota in November l935, and has remained a member there since her confirmation. Over the years, she served as a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and LWML/Ladies Aid member. She was a pillar of faith to her family throughout her lifetime. Her joy in living was to love and serve her Lord and family.

Faye is survived by her daughters, Joan Hahn of Atlantic and Judy (Rich) Schlueter of Adel; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

Janet's family includes: three of the grandchildren, Diane (Dave) Burke of Iowa City, Mark (Tina) Steffens of Solon, IA and Kevin Steffens of Wiota; four of the great-grandchildren, Daniel (Sonja) Burke of Las Vegas, Nevada, Rachel Burke of Iowa City, Ryan (Michelle) Steffens of Cedar Rapids, and Cassandra (Jake) Matthews of Adair; and two of the great-great-grandchildren, Noah Steffens of Cedar Rapids, and Ava Matthews of Adair.

Joan's family includes: two of the grandchildren, Pam (Jim) Tibken of Wiota, Laurie Hahn of Waukee, as well as wife of the late, Brian Hahn (Sharron Hahn) of Las Vegas, Nevada; three of the great-grandchildren, Shara Tibken of San Francisco, California, Brooke Tibken of Wiota, and Tucker (Kim) Tibken of Wiota; and two of the great-great-grandchildren, Logan and Landon Tibken of Wiota.

Judy's family includes: four of the grandchildren, Michael (Michelle) Schlueter of Waukee, David Schlueter of Waukee, Lisa Schlueter and Jonathan Schlueter, both of Adel; and three of the great-grandchildren, Hannah, Andrew and Nathan Schlueter of Waukee.

She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Brown of Manhattan, KS and Yvonne Krehbiel of Hutchinson, KS; one brother-in-law, Henry Kay of Atlantic; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Faye has been reunited with her parents, Christian (1960) and Martha (1984); husband, Arnold (l988); daughter, Janet (l998); sons-in-law, Earl Hahn (l972) and Don Steffens (2004); grandson, Brian Hahn (2015); grandson-in-law, Timothy Burke (2004); her siblings, Baby Jean (1928), Joanne Moll (1989), Loine Russell (1997), Ross Boseck (2002), Maurice Boseck (2005), Zoe Kay (2005), and Fern Behrends (2008).
