Obituary for Albert "Bert" Petersen
Albert "Bert" Petersen, 75, of Atlantic, passed away Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at Creighton Medical Center in Omaha.
Albert Henry Petersen was born September 8, 1940, in Atlantic, the son of Arnold Edward and Eleanor (Cron) Petersen. He graduated with Lewis' final class in 1959. After working for various contractors, he went on his own and was self-employed as a carpenter for 30 years. He enjoyed doing detailed work, such as cabinets and built-in hutches. He has been called the best finisher in Southwest Iowa. Bert is a former member and past president of the Eagles' Lodge #3762. He will be remembered as a CHARACTER spelled in capital letters as evidenced by his teasing nature and sense of humor. In his retirement, he took up grocery shopping for deals as a hobby and was often willing to share the "deal of the day!"
He is survived by his mother, Eleanor Petersen of Atlantic; four daughters, Lisa (Dick) Schnackel of Council Bluffs, Amy (Wade) Jessen of Anita, Cindy (Steve) Brownsberger of Adel, and Amanda (Victor Martinez) Griswold of Hastings, Nebraska; grandchildren, Carl and Caye Schnackel, Brandon (Sara) Bonnesen, Matt Bonnesen and Trent Jessen, Kyle, Bret and Ryan Brownsberger and Haley and Zach Griswold; great-grandchildren, Brynleigh Bonnesen and Kelsey Bonnesen; brother, Larry Petersen of Atlantic; two sisters, Rosemary (Ray) Zellmer of Wiota and Arla Clay of Atlantic; and also Nancy Petersen of Audubon.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arnold Petersen, and a brother-in-law, Gordon Clay.
Open visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., Saturday, September 19th and from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 20th. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to service at Roland's.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 21, 2015, at Roland Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Hickman officiating. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis, Iowa.
Memorials made to the family will be designated at a later date.
