Obituary for Linda Andersen

Linda L. Andersen, 74, of Marne, passed away Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic.

Linda Lou was born on February 22, 1941, the daughter of Harry Valdemar and Helena Katrina (Mortensen) Jensen, on the family farm east of Kimballton, Iowa. Her sisters have fond recollections of playing dress-up, and Linda loved to tell the story of ice skating to town on the creek. She attended country school, and graduated from Audubon High School in 1959.

When she was in high school she began dating, Lyle Dean Andersen. The couple married on October 2, 1960, at the Bethany Lutheran Church in Kimballton, Iowa. Following their marriage they lived in Harlan for five years, and in 1966 moved to the farm north of Marne, where they have shared countless memories over the last 49 years. At the beginning of their marriage they spent weekend evenings going to dances with friends.

Linda’s #1 job was being a mother. She also worked as a cook at the Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn from 1985-2013. She was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Linda was active in a saddle club, and looked forward to watching the kids show at the county fair. She and Lyle took many trips via Amtrak, not only to visit family, but to also spend time sightseeing. During the holidays, she spent endless hours perfecting her Christmas village display for the enjoyment of all. Linda loved to cook and bake, and just recently made her family her "oh so tasty" rhubarb pie. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life, and they will treasure the many memories they had with her. They will miss that special corner in grandma’s kitchen that always housed many delightful baked goods.

Linda is survived by her husband of 54 years, Lyle; children, Lori (Omar) Colbert of Haughton, LA, Bryan (Kathy) Andersen of Elk Horn, IA, Tracie (Ed) Hines of Omaha, NE, and Kimberely (Brian) Schnepf of Sibley, IA; grandchildren, Michaela (Joshua) Moore, Kolton Lange, Kaele Lange, Ries Andersen, Mitchell Hines, and Sam Schnepf; great-grandchildren, Jennyssa, Kaelan, Logan, and Corbin Moore; sisters, Lois Jean Christensen of Elk Horn, IA, Shirley (Garry) Works of Chandler, Arizona, and Betty (Darwin) Larsen of Harlan, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Joan Jensen of Oskaloosa, IA, Connie Andersen of Atlantic, and Eileen (Doug) Alff of Walnut, IA; brother-in-law, Ivan (Marge) Andersen of Audubon, IA; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Helena Jensen; parents-in-law, Arlo and Elvera Andersen; brother, Merle Jensen; and brothers-in-law, Lamont Christensen and Marvin Andersen.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 20, 2015, at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa, with Pastor Keith Menter, officiating. Interment will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation with the family will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, June 19th, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic
