Obituary for Mary Fooken

Mary M. Fooken, 74, of Manilla, and formerly of Bridgewater, passed away Sunday, June 14, 2015, at the Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa.

The daughter of Earl and Mid Metzger, Mary was born August 23, 1940, in Bridgewater, Iowa. She attended school in Bridgewater, and was a member of the class of 1958, the last graduating class at the school.

On March 6, 1960, Mary married Merlyn Fooken. To this union, three sons were born, David, Pat & Steve.

She worked in the Food Service Department in both Avoca and Greenfield, Iowa nursing homes for over 30 years. During this time she served as head cook.

She loved going to the mountains out west on camping trips with her family. She also enjoyed time at the casino.

After the death of her husband, she moved to Manilla, Iowa to be closer to her family.

Mary is survived by her sons, David (Brenda) Fooken of Minburn, Pat (Sheila) Fooken of Manilla and Steve (Martha) Fooken of Defiance; grandchildren, Brian (Amber) Fooken of Mt. Ayr, Kurt Fooken of Creston, Josh Schaaf of Texas, Megan and Jessica Fooken of Minburn; and great grandchildren, Trey and Kenleigh Fooken of Mt. Ayr.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merlyn; her parents, Earl and Mid Metzger; her in-laws, John and Josie Fooken; and aunts and uncles.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2015, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:30 a.m, Friday. Interment will be in the First Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery, south of Wiota.
