Obituary for Jim Young

JIM YOUNG

Jim Young, 79, of Atlantic, passed away Saturday, April 18, 2015, in Sun City West, Arizona.

Howard James Young was born March 22, 1936, to Jesse (Read) and Howard A. Young at their home in Madison County Iowa.

Jim attended country school and then later, attended Macksburg School, graduating in 1954. He was a member of the Iowa National Guard for eight years.

On June 10, 1956, Jim was joined in marriage to Joyce Denton. The couple was married for over 58 years. To this union, God blessed them with five daughters: Teresa, Suzette, Michelle, Jamie, and Jennie. Throughout their married life, they have lived in Winterset, IA, Libertyville, IL, Lenox, IA, and then Atlantic, IA since 1967.

Jim owned and operated a service station for DX, Skelly, and Standard in Lenox, Creston, and Atlantic. He also worked in factories for 15 years in Lenox and Atlantic. Jim farmed for 27 years as well.

Jim had a passion for woodworking. He especially enjoyed building many pieces of furniture and decorative items for family and friends. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and his beloved dog, Meg.

One thing Jim really loved doing, was traveling with Joyce on numerous motorcycle trips and in later years, in their motor home. They traveled to 34 states, including Alaska and Hawaii.

In 2011, Jim and Joyce purchased a home in Sun City West, Arizona. They thoroughly enjoyed their time there. They treasured the time they had with family and friends in Iowa and Arizona. Jim and Joyce also cherished the summers they spent at their home in Atlantic.

While in Arizona, after a long battle with cancer and other health problems, Jim went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 18, 2015, at the age of 79. Jim's relationship with the Lord began in High School and he was baptized on October 8, 1964.

Jim will be greatly missed by his wife, Joyce; daughters, Teresa (Mark) Kezar of Lufkin, TX, Suzette (Patrick) Grady of Pleasant Hill, IA, and Michelle (Jim) Smith, Jamie (David) Newbury and Jennie (Dwaine) Kirchhoff all of Atlantic; nine grandchildren, Sara (Michael) McCarl, Justin (Jennifer) Kezar, Joy (Anthony) Tarver, Joshua Jacobsen, Samantha (Jeremy) Wohletz, Nigel Newbury, Chloe` Newbury, Cortnie (Brandon) Taylor and Cody Kirchhoff; nine great-grandchildren, Madison McCarl, Dylan McCarl, Alyssa McMullen, Anica McMullen, Savannah Kezar, Bailey Kezar, Raegan Foster, Brianna Taylor and Weston Taylor; brothers, Duane (Kathy) Young, John Young, Raymond (Pennie) Young, Charles Young, Larry (Harriet) Young, Gayle (Faye) Young, Robert (Mary Jane) Young; and sister, Connie (Larry) Dahl.
