Obituary for Garry A. Johnk

Garry A. Johnk, 60, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed way unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 14, 2014, near Avoca, Iowa.

Garry Allen Johnk was born on March 1, 1954, in Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Vernon Herman and Doris Annette (Nelson) Johnk. He grew up on the farm south of Walnut, Iowa, and graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1973. During high school he received on-the-job training at Macedonia Implement, and following graduation continued working there full-time for many years. Garry later went to work for Bob Young Trucking in Walnut. Trucking became his life, and he was able to see each of the Continental United States while on the road.

When not trucking, Garry enjoyed movies and camping all around Iowa. His nieces and nephews will remember him taking them on camping adventures to Okoboji. Garry loved to tease and joke, and sometimes it was very difficult to tell when he was being serious.

Garry is survived by his sisters, Linda Lobaugh of Dow City, Iowa, and LuAnn (Robert) Woolsey of Lewis, Iowa; brother, Dennis (Carol) Johnk of Lincoln, Nebraska; and nieces, nephews and their families, Dana (Janeen) Lobaugh and their children, Derek, Dillon and Devyn, Darren (Amanda) Lobaugh and their children, Jamison, Carter and Quentin, Diana Lobaugh and her fiancé, Sean Zapp, Sara (Randy) Beach and their children, Jackson, Ava and Tyson, Jesse (Micaela) Johnk and their son, Mason, April (Emerson) Carter and their children, Callie, Cadie and Cynzie; and Annette Woolsey.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Carolyn Johnk; nephews, Vernon D. Johnk, Quentin C. Johnk, and Brent Woolsey; and brother-in-law, Dennis Lobaugh.

A visitation with the family will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, October 17, 2014, at Roland Funeral Home in Atlantic. Following the visitation cremation will take place and a private family burial at Oakwood Cemetery in Lewis will be held at a later date.

Roland Funeral Service is caring for Garry's family and his arrangements. Condolences may be left at www.rolandfuneralservice.com.
