BETTY J. VOGGESSER

Betty J. Voggesser, 87, of Avoca & formerly of Atlantic, passed away Sunday, March 9, 2014, at the Avoca Nursing & Rehab Center.

Betty was born on October 7, 1926, in Hawarden, Iowa, the daughter of John and Irene (Shriner) Knutson. In 1943, she graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Following high school she attended Jennie Edmundson Nursing School, graduating in 1947.

On June 20, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leopold "Leo" Voggesser at Betty's parents' home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They made their home in Atlantic for 20 years before moving to Avoca in 1968. Betty worked as a nurse at Cass County Memorial Hospital and then for Dr. Needles until her retirement.

Betty was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic. At the church she was active in Golden Years, the cookie walk, and a member of the ladies circle. The members of the church will always remember her carrot casserole. Outside of the church she enjoyed reading, crafting, crocheting, and getting together with her classmates from nursing school. Betty was well known in the family for Aunt Betty's Taco's! She also enjoyed flying with Leo. Her family will remember the three most important things to her as being, FAITH, FAMILY, and FRIENDS. Even when Betty was done nursing she never stopped caring for people.
