Obituary for Delbert Duane Johnson

Delbert  Duane  Johnson
Delbert Duane Johnson, 81, of Atlantic, Iowa passed away Tuesday April 16, 2013 at his home.
Delbert was born on November 9, 1931 in Newcastle, NE to John and Stella Johnson. Delbert was raised in Newcastle where he attended grade school and later graduated. Following graduation, he entered the United States Navy where he would have a very long & successful military career. Delbert served over twenty years, fighting in the Korean War as well as in Vietnam, retiring with the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
When Delbert wasn't busy working for Hawkeye Electric, he enjoyed building new things and working on remodeling projects. He also had a giving heart; donating generously to several organizations such as Boys Town, Easter Seals, State Troopers Association & Disabled Veterans. His approach was often very direct and to the point, however, he had a heart of gold with a caring, compassionate personality.
Delbert is survived by nieces, Dottie Smith and Janice Johnson; nephew Wally Johnson; cousin, Ted Smith; great niece, Theresa Miller and great nephew, Bruce Wayne Smith-Walters.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers; Leroy Johnson, Virgil Johnson, Gayl Johnson and Robert Johnson; Sisters, Zetta Moller, June Johnson and Agatha Smith.
