Obituary for Betty J Jensen

BETTY JANICE JOYCE JENSEN

Betty Jensen, 91, longtime resident of Atlantic, passed away on Friday morning, October 12, 2012 at Heritage House in Atlantic, Iowa.
Betty Joyce was the youngest child born to John R and Dula (Lanphere) Joyce on March 23, 1921 in Atlantic, Iowa. She attended Pymosa’s country school until the 8th grade, and then attended Atlantic High School—graduating in 1941.
Betty met Rodney Wilton Jensen and they were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church here on January 19, 1943. Rodney and Betty were blessed with fifty years of marriage. Following WWII Rodney and Betty became operators and later owners of Robinson TruValue Hardware Inc.
She will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor, and practical jokes. She enjoyed sewing and golf. She was an experienced tailor and seamstress. She took up golf in 1963 and was very involved in the establishment of the “Nishna Hills Ladies Association” and served as president and member of the board for a number of years.
Betty was a member of the First United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there for 25 years. She was a long time 4-H member and leader, and she was responsible for establishing an Atlantic town club “Atlantic Atoms.”
She is survived by her daughter, Joyce Ann Jensen (Dick Scybert) of Atlantic; her son, Jack R. Jensen (Jo Beth) of Atlantic; six grandchildren: Ann Brownsberger (Scott), Jon McEntaffer (Jennifer), Lindsey Printopoulos (Stavros), Andrew Jensen, Jacquelyn Jensen, and Samantha Scybert; eight great-grandchildren: Alison, Leah, and Ian Brownsberger, James, Jocelyn, Jayna, and Jaxon McEntaffer, and Reese Printopoulos; and sisters-in-law Millie Jensen and Darlene Gardner.
She was preceded in death by, Rodney, her husband of fifty years; sisters Mildred Smith and Lucille Turner; brothers Claude, Harold, and Joseph Joyce; brothers-in-law Kenneth and Dale Jensen and sister in law Elaine Rovane; as well as her parents.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:30am Monday, October 15th at First United Methodist Church in Atlantic. The committal service will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery. Pastor Lynette Plambeck will officiate. Family will meet friends 5-7pm Sunday, October 14th at Roland’s Funeral Home. Open visitation will be held Saturday 9am-12pm, and Sunday 12-5pm.
